What is The Church on the Hill?
We’re more of a who than a what.
We’re members of the Lord’s church who meet in the Valley View area of Jonesboro, Arkansas. We’re a group of people who elevate Christ - his life, death and resurrection above all else.
We’ve been called to serve others and we try to let the light of God’s word shine from this hill and through the members that make up this body of believers.
We’re not a perfect bunch, but we strive to live our lives, giving glory to God in all things. We’ve found a home on this hill and we’d love for you to join us in work and worship to our God and Savior.
What do you believe?
We believe in the power of Christ to save.
We believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the son of God, lived as a perfect and sinless man, and that he gave himself as the ultimate sacrifice to bridge the gap between us and God.
"This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time."
1 Timothy 2:3-6
We believe God longs for all people to be saved, and calls us through his gospel.
Why? Because we have all sinned and been lost – all of us!
But Jesus died to rescue us – all of us!
"But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ."
2 Thessalonians 2:13-14
We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God, and that everything that pertains to life and salvation can be found within its pages. It’s our compass. It’s our map. It’s our guide to see us through this life and finding a home with God.
"But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."
2 Timothy 3:14-17
We believe we are called to serve others through Christ’s example and teachings and to share the good news of Christ throughout our community and the world.
What can I expect if I attend a service?
You can expect to hear God’s word preached without reservation. We’re not ashamed of what the Bible proclaims - but you can also be assured that we preach the word with love.
You can expect a warm greeting, a handshake or even a hug! We’re so glad you’ve taken time to be with us and the Lord - we want to extend the love of God in any way we can.
You can expect to hear singing - and we’d love for you to participate with us as we worship our God! We sing a capella and as an entire group. Most songs are pretty easy to catch on, so feel free to join in!
You can expect to see reverence for God. We take our worship seriously - not that we don’t have any levity or enjoyment - but that we have the utmost respect for our Creator and Savior. We’re there to serve our God with all of our heart.
You can expect to see all kinds of personalities. We have serious people. We have light-hearted folks. We have casual attire, we have people who dress to the nines. We have families, singles, old, young, a wide variety of professions and skills - all kinds of people from this community that join in the work and worship of God.
For the kids:
Temporarily Halted due to COVID-19
If you have small children, we have a private nursery, a training room and an attended nursery for children 2 and under. On Sunday nights, kids from 3 to 2nd grade have the opportunity to experience Children’s Bible Hour. Here they learn biblical concepts at their level through puppets, stories and crafts. Also, for 3rd - 6th grade kids, we have FBI (Faithful Bible Investigators) which allows for a more in-depth study for that age level.
